At the Nov. 5 fall concert Sophia Olden (11), flute player for the Symphonic Winds, laughs at a joke director Michael Monk made about forgetting his music. This was Olden’s first band concert with the band and was getting ready to play her first song. Monk’s joke helped Olden calm her nerves and focus on the music she was about to play. “It just distracted me, and made it feel like normal practice,” Olden said, “It didn’t really feel like anyone was in the audience.”
